Journey of Hope:
North Team Journal 2017

Thursday, June 22, 2017

It is now day 12, and I still have no idea what day of the week it is. But today is our last day in Nevada and we woke up at 5:00 AM to beat the heat for the ride. Today started out just like every other day; wake up, brush my teeth, fold and pack everything back into my bags, prep myself for the ride, prep my bike and get some breakfast. Usually during breakfast is when everyone picks their paclines for the day, and I got the chance to ride with Wil Gradle, Patrick McKinney and Mack (Henry) Mackey. I had only been a sweep once before today, so we decided as a paceline to sweep. This means we are always the last paceline of the day making sure all the other ones get to the destination safely. We stopped quite a few times for other pacelines but it was worth it to see other guys push themselves passed their limits and see them grow into servant leaders because of this trip.

The ride was a long 95 miles in the middle of the desert, under the blazing hot sun. But being with brothers that will always have my back and help push me to finish was all I could ask for. We crossed our second state line today from Baker, Nevada into Delta, Utah. Once we arrived to the highschool we weren't thinking about how hard the next day was going to be or if we could even ride the next day. We all showered and just had a good time, everyone made their own plans to go eat, play some basketball and even go see a movie.

Thanks to the men I have been taking this journey head on with, I have learned that this trip is about living in the moment and making the best of what you have.
